Cooly's Hot Box

 

Cooly's Hot Box is a four piece soul, funk and jazz band from New York, consisting of
vocalists Christian Urich, the band’s founder and drummer, Angela Johnson, percussionist
Ernesto Abreu and bassist Chris Smyke
They met while pursuing undergraduate degrees in studio composition in
New York.The Cooly’s Hot Box sound has reached out worldwide, with one of their songs
“Don’t Throw My Love Around” having been featured on the compilation “Giant
Steps” released by London Records.
The band have toured extensively in the US and Canada, working with such diverse
acts as BB King, A Tribe Called Quest, Roger Troutman and Zapp, the Neville Brothers,
Guru and India Arie. Although they had several 12 inch singles out in the nineties. they
only released there first album in 2001 on the UK based label Dome Records. Early 2002
this album "Take It" was also released in th US.
