Ali Ollie Woodson
Ali "Ollie" Woodson is perhaps best known
for the time he was a member of the Temptations but
before that he also played drums with Frederick Knight, performed with The
Drifters from 1972
to 1977 and replaced Teddy Pendergrass as the lead singer of The Blue Notes in
1977.
After that he pursued a solo career in New York, until 1983 when Ali Woodson was
asked to
join the Temptations. He had his work cut out for him replacing two of the most
dynamic singers
of all time, David Ruffin and Dennis Edwards.
His first recording with the Temptations was "Stop The World Right Here" from
the Back To
Basis album in 1983. For the next album Truly For You one year later Ali
wrote "Treat Her Like
A Lady" which became the on of the biggest hit for the Temps in the 80's.
Proving Ali was not only
a great singer he wrote 4 songs for their 1985 album Touch Me. But after their
1986 album To Be
Continued Ali left the Temptations (former lead singer Dennis Edward came back
to replace Ali) and
Woodson disappeared from the music for a while.
But things changed and in 1988 Dennis Edwards left the Temptations again and Ali
was asked back
He recorded some more album with the Temps, the last one was For Lovers Only in
1995. After
that Ali left the group again to concentrate on his solo career. He was a
vocalist on several projects
by Doc Powell, Juanita Dailey, Al McKay, Paul Jackson and Freda Payne before
releasing his debut
solo album Right Here All Along in 2001. He is also featured on the 2003 album
It's Not So Easy by
Juewett Bostick.
