Blu Cantrell
As she grew up in Providence, R. I. with
her five siblings, Blu Cantrell was toted
from one jazz performance to another to watch her Mother sing. From that point
forward, Cantrell knew what she wanted to do and set about auditioning for vocal
gigs and displaying her dynamic alto voice at talent shows. By the time she was
25 years old, Cantrell had released her debut album, So Blu, to the critical
appraise
of music publications like Billboard. On a visit to Atlanta, Ga. in 2000,
Cantrell
played her demo tape for A&R executive Tab and producer C. Stewart (aka
Tricky)
of RedZone Entertainment. They were so impressed that they immediately provided
studio work to the young musician. Cantrell began singing background vocals for
artists such as Gerald Levert, Faith Evans, Sean Combs (aka P. Diddy) and Aaron
Hall. Meanwhile, Cantrell began recording tracks for what would ultimately
become
part of her first full-length album.
Other contributors brought in to work on the project included
producers/songwriters
James Harris III (aka Jimmy Jam) and Terry Lewis.
