Listening to Ginuwine's third album, it
sounds like there's a definite change in direction.
The accompanying publicity here indicates that the recent deaths of his mother
and
father have had a huge impact, and indeed one of the songs ("Two
Reason") is a direct
reference to his loss. It's a lot more mellow and thoughtful than anything he's
recorded
before and the philosophising continues on the Raphal Saadiq collaboration
"Two Way".
"There it Is (Shit 4 Nothin')," the album's leadoff single, finds the
sexy singer answering
to a jealous girlfriend. The song is a likely anthem for any male who is tired
of his
possessive woman.
The sweetest melody is saved for the ballad "Differences", but in
thruth it's not that
different to a lot of contemporary RnB slowies. And, who'd ever thought that the
old
Bachelor would dip into the Diane Warren songbook? "Superhuman"
musically and
lyrically is typical Warren and it does sound a little out of place. More in
keeping with
Ginuwine's old persona is "Role Playing" and "Show After The
Show" but the cut with
the most impact is the closer "Just Because" which is a fine slab of
modern RnB dance
music.
