Perri
Perri was formed in 1981, consisting of the
sisters Lori, Carol, Darlene and Sharon Perry. But it wasn't
until 1986 they released their debut album. After live appearances with Pat
Metheny in 1983 and 1985,
they signed with Zebra Records and recorded the album "Celebrate".
After this they were asked to join Anita Baker to sing background during her
world tour. Through Anita
they got into contact with producer Michael J. Powell who produced 2 of the
tracks on their 1988 album
"The Flight". This album reached number 81 on the R&B Albums Chart with the
single ""No Place To Go"
getting to number 41 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Chart.
In 1989 they recorded the single "Feel So good" for the Spike Lee soundtrack
album to the movie "Do
The Right Thing". This soundtrack also included a duet by Lori Perry and Gerald
Alston called "Hard
To Say".
Following this Perri was signed by MCA where they released their third album "Tradewinds"
in 1990.
This album produced the minor hit "Someone Like You" peaking at number 49 in the
Hot R&B/Hip-Hop
Singles Chart. This album also contains a song recorded four years later by
Anita Baker on her
"Rhythm of Love" album, "It's Been You".
