Tyrese
Born Tyrese Darnell Gibson, 30 December
1978, Los Angeles, California, USA. This photogenic
urban R&B singer is also a highly successful model and actor. Gibson grew up in
Los Angeles' tough
Watts ghetto, gaining his big break when he starred in a 1995 advertisement for
Coca-Cola. RCA
Records won the ensuing scramble for Tyrese's signature, and were rewarded when
his self-titled
1998 debut album spawned the US pop and R&B hits "Nobody Else", "Sweet Lady" and
"Lately".
A high-profile string of modelling assignments for GUESS? and Tommy Hilfiger
followed, as well a
s acting roles in the hit television series Moesha and John Singleton's 2001
movie, Baby Boy.
His sophomore album, 2000 Watts, employed some of US music's most successful
writing and
production teams to help create a classy and highly commercial product. Tyrese
made his debut
for the J Records label the following December with I Wanna Go There.
